Sojiro was my favorite character in RuroKen, so it wasn't too hard of a choice. To be able to move without being seen is just cool, and he's probably would have beat Kenshin had his emotions not gone awry. And I also liked his past as it unfolded during his fight with Kenshin. I really would have liked to see some after story about him...=(
I also liked Usui in that you don't see many blind swordsmen (only other one I know of it Zatoichi) and his Shingan is cool too, but his personality...and motives...meh

I mostly buy gashapon, but every once in a while I find a good figure, so I can't help but buy it (Kotobukiya recently released a completed model of their resin kit for Belldandy that looks amazing). One thing I'm troubled about figures is that there aren't many that are manufactured so they run out pretty fast if it's a popular character/series.

I'd go with sleep for this one. Of course you need to eat every once in a while, but sleep is also essential to survival. In Psychology class we watched vids where a radio broadcaster was staying up for over 240 hours (not sure about specific, but over 2 weeks) and eventually his personality changed completely due to impairment in his frontal cortex. Another one was of a music professor who had a disease that made him not able to sleep. After 6 months he died (I think it was because the brain was exhausted from being in an active state for so long). Of course without food there will be a significant amount of atrophy, but I'd prefer keeping my mental state intact over my physical conditions.

to pyro: Calculus is used a lot in Physics. I took a Mechanics class in high school and a majority of the time we were using integration and differentiation to find the speed/velocity from the position (if you know one you'd be able to get equations for all 3). And this is very practical in life, too. Maybe not quickly but you'd be able to estimate the reaction of an object when you apply a force to it...I dno maybe it's just because I like math so much I'm trying to defend it...(an uphill battle). But you're right in that most people only need the math to do their taxes ><

Anyways, my "worst" subject was English. This was mostly because my writing style works, but it isn't the one that is taught (CD/CM for those who care). So basically I couldn't write well in the taught style, and writing in my style docked me points for not following CD/CM format = =. Otherwise, I love reading and analyzing books...just writing... Also, if you have a bad history teacher, it's just a bunch of memorization which is a pain.

If one resigns themself to their fate, I think they will find that they would be much more content when that fate befalls them. The only part of death I can find reason to fear is dying, but I'm confident in saying that most people that are dying will accept their death by the time it comes. There is a duality between life and death, so fearing/rejecting either will remove the significance of the other.

hihi ^^. First, I like the eyes (esp her left eye). But her hair is messy ><. This is obvious, so I'll go into more detail. You use multiple strokes in one line. Something that would help this would be to imagine where you want the line to end and the amount of curve....or you can cheat (like me =P) and use pencil to sketch the contours before inking it (I prefer felt pens over ball-point, but that's just me). I also have tons of problems with hair, but something that helps me is if I draw the space the hair will take up (like outline I guess...?) it's a bit easier to draw it. One more thing that would make the hair look less messy would be to add less lines (like the Haine&Ushio on your deviant art). These are all just things that I'm trying out to get better...hope they help ^^

Haa I opened this account a couple months back and it just occured to me that I never made one of these guys X-O

So I stumbled across this site looking for a new wallpaper, and I ended up with so much more =]. So thanks to the admins and members for this community ^^.

So, first I'm a student. Second, a musician. Third, a teacher. I began reading manga maybe 6-7 years ago which consequently got me involved in anime. While I probably don't have the abilities in order to contribute to this site, someday I might learn about shopping photos and drawing better so i can more confidently submit works. For those that actually want to know more, I've written some stuff on my page, so you can check that out (maybe...?).

f

I think a lot of that has to do with the directors cutting out material when making the anime (based on manga). Like how books often are more detailed than movies, people may become disappointed when they don't see the manga reenacted accurately in the anime. Another problem would be that anime faces stricter censorship rules (see "Hayate no Gotoku!")

Quote by shadowxlinkOH I GOT ONE! MAKOTO FROM SCHOOL DAYS ANIME!

That's exactly what I thought! Anime has its fair share of annoying, mean and irritating characters, but hated? Itou Makoto takes the cake

Quote by AgulaAsa from Shuffle!

T.T though she wasn't my favorite character (SIAAA)....bleet maybe I just love Shuffle! too much...

From what I'm getting from this thread, generally "great" = "popular" and TV = US, not Japan (Plumm's profile says US Michigan so I'm confident on this one). Assuming this to be true, one of my biggest problems with such anime (naruto, bleach, inu yasha to name a few) is that they become almost ridiculously long. Plumm stated that many of the first 200 episodes of Naruto were filler and Bleach added an entire story arc that was not included in the manga. I'm not touching Inu Yasha because Rumiko Takahashi is known for making humongous series (Urusei Yatsura capped at 200 some, making Maison Ikkoku look puny with a "mere" 96). The problem with this would be that it's really hard to keep a series going that long with a steady flow of fresh material. Unfortunately, (imo) many such series fail at this

Chepelos, I share your feelings that people shouldn't just hop on the bandwagon, but you have to take into consideration that by the time an anime series is televised in the US, just about every "valuable" fan would have had a copy of it for at least a year. Maybe more. I don't watch any US channel that broadcasts anime, but I'm seeing Death Note ep 6 and Bleach ep 49-52 on the adult swim website. Death Note began airing in Japan Oct '06, and Bleach raws are out to like 150ish right now (with the fansubs following days after). Not to mention that it's aired with the english dub, which have been notorious for being horrible. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if people are excited to watch the newest episode of (dubbed) Bleach on their television, they shouldn't be considered much of a "fan" anyways. I digress...

To me, it doesn't really matter what becomes popular in the US, but actual anime fans will not limit their favorites to just anime that has all the hype.

To make this seem kind of relevant to the original post, some of the popular series that I have liked are: FMA, Death Note (until about halfway with that huge plot change...you know...I don't know how to use spoilers so yea......), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Disregarding that it took the typical h-game based anime and turned it around, many of the characters didn't seem dynamic at all (all the minor characters) which plays a big part in how much I enjoy an anime. From the other thread it seemed like they were trying to include all the endings, but that diluted the characters alot (except the 3 main chars).

f

It's probably a little late to enter this debate since it's basically developed into mountain vs Program ZERO, but I'll just toss in my two cents anyways...

I believe that evolution does occur, but also that the concept, while for the most part true, has flaws. This is based off that all aspects of an organism are derived from a progression of transitory elements in its predecessors. While this would be true with most examples (to take from the debate, the evolution of wings), I find it hard to apply this concept universally. The most glaring problem with me would be the ability of sight. While sight may prove very beneficial after its complete development, any form of a transition in the development of eyes seems neither beneficial nor harmful to an organisms ability to survive. And supposing an eye complete with lenses and optical nerves happened to be a mutation the brain still needs to develop enough to be able to use said eye.

I am by no means a biology major nor have I studied evolution extensively (though willing to research), but I've just been harboring this question for a while and figured this would be a suitable place to bring it up ^^'' (though I might just get ignored...)

f

I like the cello the most because it has a wide range and because I like the tone (harder to play really high though...). Oh yea, I play it too ^^'. Playing piano with two people (four hands) is fun too. Otherwise, I like hearing a good clarinet player (clarinet...ist...?). Oh yea, and no electric stuff (I believe that music wasn't meant to be distorted)

f

My first impression after finishing this was something along the lines of "I'm disgusted." But that's probably just because my respect for all the characters plummeted at some point (except Kokoro, like Hikari says and I still liked Setsuna). Maybe it's simply because this diverges so far from the typical harem-type anime that I'm used to (I haven't played the game, so I didn't know what to expect from it).

So the good points? First, I liked the art (plain and simple). Also, looking at it as a tragedy, the anime depicts the degredation of Sekai and Kotonoha's lives (and sanity) and all the tension building up until the last episode. Notice I left out Makoto. Sorry (maybe not), but that guy is just such a jerk (ep 10!ep6!) and like after something like ep 8 I didn't see his character seemed (was?) flat. Moreso, he has no redeeming qualities or any good reasons for his actions (in my books, sex is not a good reason...)

f

If the anime is good enough to be enjoyable when I'm watching it again, then I'm pretty sure that some spoilers wouldn't be too bad the first time seeing the series

f

I'd put up Tonkatsu from Nagasarete Airantou just because his name is Tonkatsu. Other than that, Mokona from Tsubasa and the chibi form of Kirara from Inu Yasha

f

Potemayo and Dennou Coil for me. I'm liking ef a lot too, but it's still airing so can't make a concrete decision yet. And I'm loving every moment of Minami-ke.

Haven't seen them, but I've heard good things about Gurren-Lagann and Sola (on my list of things to watch...)

f

Shana was aired in 2006, but the season started in 2005.

Haruhi has certainly received the most popularity in this list and I enjoyed it the most too, but School Rumble was also amazing (as both manga and anime). The Kanon remake definately improved in the quality of its art and animation (KyoAni living up to its reputation), but it would have been nice to see a different ending.
There are lots of other series I'm going to watch (Black Lagoon, Asatte no Houkou, Zero no Tsukaima to name a few) but 2007 has been keeping me busy.

f

OP - SCRAMBLE (1st season of School Rumble)
Lilium (Elfen Lied)
Minami-ke's OP (don't know name...)
Aozora Loop (Kimikiss Pure Rouge)
ICHIGO Complete (Ichigo Mashimaro) was a good choice for that type of anime, though it's not my type of music

The only ED I remember liking is Kesenai Tsumi from FMA just because I bought the OST. Dango Daikazoku from Clannad was also nice to watch.

f

If they feel that the serires is so horrible, they should just write a decent review about it. That is if they have anything meaningful to say, which is untrue in most cases...

f

Hayate no Gotoku! Loved it from the music when Hayate enters and when he was cut off by the OP.
Samurai Champloo - I would watch that anime just to see Mugen's unconventional fighting style, and it proved to be much more than just that. Most other anime I've forgotten my first impressions >_<
Of the new season, Minami-ke was overflowing with Chiaki x Kana comedy duo awsomeness and ef~a tale of memories had the impression that it could turn into something really profound.

f

I'm reading School Rumble and Hayate no Gotoku!. Great manga and anime, which is pretty uncommon.

Generally I read the manga and watch the anime, but for some series one hardly compares to the other (Samurai Champloo manga never grabbed me...)

f

School Days for me. I usually don't watch anime I don't think I'll like, but I guess I misjudged this one

f

One reason I don't like to buy domestic DVDs is because I can't stand the dubs and outside of that (dubs) some companies offer very little extra content that would make the DVD worth buying. Granted that without fansubs I'd be more inclined to buy it, it'd be much harder to judge (even hear about) the anime without them. Since I don't have TV, I don't know, but this is completely invalid if dubbed anime is aired before the DVDs are released.

The flipside to domestic DVDs is to buy imported DVDs, which is a gamble. Maybe this will change now that America is now a significant consumer, but the english subs on imports can contain huge errors in grammer (and some in content) making the anime less enjoyable to watch. Of course increasing the appeal for imports would make people less inclined to buy domestic DVDs, but it would be much faster than to wait for the anime to be released in America.

The point I wanted to make from this is that since fansubs aren't criminal unless the subbers gain profit, the Japanese companies have to take action against subbing groups if they want something done about it. Fansubs don't get any more illegal when a US company licenses something, they're just more likely to sue. That said, it would be hard to stop fansubs since each group functions independently, and it's probable that many groups only work over the internet (irc or something) and don't have any personal connections.
